WHAT IF I...?
Get Married

IMPORTANT: Be sure to enroll your spouse and any eligible dependent children for benefits within 31 days of your marriage. Otherwise, you will have to wait until the next open enrollment period.

  • Review your spouse’s benefits. If your spouse is covered under a benefit plan, you should review his or her benefits for coordination of coverage and determine which plan best meets your family needs.

  • Enroll your spouse and/or dependents for benefits. Your spouse and any eligible dependents can receive:

    • Medical, dental and vision benefits

    • Dependent Term Life Insurance

  • Review FSA contributions. You may begin, stop or change the amount of your contribution to a:
    • Health Care Spending Account, and/or

    • Dependent Care Spending Account. (If you join this plan, Valassis will match your contributions, dollar-for-dollar, up to the first $600 you contribute for a total annual contribution of $5,000 if you are single and file as head of household or married and file jointly; $2,500 if you are married and file separately). You must be hired by 10/1 to be eligible for the company contribution for the next year. Company contributions are made on a quarterly basis.

  • Consider adjusting your voluntary life insurance coverage (evidence of insurability is required to increase coverage more than one level).

  • Review your designated beneficiaries. You may change your beneficiaries for:

    • Basic and Voluntary Life and AD&D Insurance

    • Retirement Savings Plans

To designate or change a beneficiary for your life insurance, complete the beneficiary designation form and submit it to the HR Solution Center. To designate or change a beneficiary for the Retirement Savings Plan, complete the beneficiary designation form and submit it to JP Morgan (via www.retireonline.com). You may also chose to sign onto www.valassisbenefits.com and choose the "Enroll or Make Changes" option in the upper right hand corner. You are automatically the beneficiary for any life insurance you elect for your spouse and children.

  • Consider changing tax withholdings.

Make changes to your W-4 and submit it to payroll. You can also complete it electronically through the Web using Employee Self Service (ESS), which is accessible through myValassis, Human Resources, Helpful Links, Employee Self Service.

  • Consider changing Retirement Savings Plan contributions. You may change your contribution amount or begin contributing to the Retirement Savings Plan. You may use the online option by going to www.retireonline.com or by telephone at 1-800-345-2345.
  • Notify Valassis of emergency information. You should inform Valassis of any changes in your name, address or emergency notification information by contacting the HR Solution Center at 1-877-238-6847.

  • Consider revising or drafting a will.
