| WHAT IF I...? |
 |
| Want to Add my Domestic Partner? |
IMPORTANT: Be sure to enroll your
spouse, civil union or domestic partner and any eligible dependent children
for benefits within 31 days of your eligibility date for events such
as: marriage, civil union (if residing in a state that recognizes civil
union), domestic partnership (12 month residency requirement met). Otherwise,
you will have to wait until the next open enrollment period.
- Review special domestic partner rules for benefit coverage.
- Your domestic partner cannot submit claims for reimbursement
through your Flexible Spending Account, unless they are your IRS-qualified
dependent.
- All benefits extended to a taxpayer's domestic partner are taxable,
unless your domestic partner is IRS-qualified and can be claimed
on your taxes. For non-IRS qualified domestic partners, the value
of the benefit must be included in your income. For additional information,
please contact your Human Resources Representative or the HR Solution
Center at 1-877-238-6847.
- Know which states don't recognize domestic partnerships.
Domestic partner coverage is offered throughout the country. An
associate who registers his or her common-law spouse needs to complete
an affidavit attesting to the common-law arrangement and would register
the partner as "spouse."
In eligible states, residents who are the same gender and are married
under the laws of the state with a certificate of marriage are able
to register their partner as a spouse and not as a domestic partner.
In eligible states, civil union partners are able to register their
civil union partner with a certificate of union.
- Enroll your domestic partner for benefits. Your
partner and any eligible dependents can receive:
- Medical, dental and vision benefits
- Dependent Term Life Insurance
Want to Terminate my Domestic Partnership?
Contact your Human Resources Representative the HR Solution Center.
- Consider adjusting your voluntary life insurance coverage
(evidence of insurability is required to increase coverage
more than one level).
