Manufacturing Hourly Associates
Manufacturing hourly associates will follow specific vacation guidelines to meet business needs as directed.

Temporary associates and non-benefits eligible associates are not eligible for paid vacation time.

Scheduling
The vacation year begins on January 1 and ends on December 31 of each year. Vacations for which associates are eligible should be taken within the current year. Associates should develop their vacation plans and advise their functional leader at the beginning of each calendar year or as soon as possible. Requests must be submitted in writing and approved before taking vacation time.

Management reserves the right to deny vacation requests to fulfill business needs and staffing requirements.

Vacation Buy
Full-time salaried associates are given the opportunity to purchase additional amounts of vaction time. Associates must be hired by October 1st prior to the plan year to participate in the program. Vacation purchase will only be offered to associates during the open enrollment period.

Vacation purchase amounts (based on shift worked and years of service) are as follows:

Shift + Years of Service
Maxiumum Number of Days
8 hour shift, 0 - 9 years of service
5 Days
8 hour shift, 10+ years of service
2 Days
10 or 12 hour shift, 0- 9 years of service
4 Days
10 or 12 hours shift, 10+ years of service
2 Days

Additional Information
Post-tax deductions for vacation purchase will be taken over the entire year. Unused purchased vacation time is not reimbursable at the end of the year, however unused accrued time will be reimbursed upon termination.

You can access the vacation purchase form by clicking here.

Vacation Carryover
With approval, associates will be allowed to carryover accrued but unused vacation days up to the maximum within their tenure level. The maximum amount of vacation that an associate is allowed in a year is between 20 and 27 days, based on tenure level, which includes core vacation, carryover, and purchased vacation (during Open Enrollment) days.

Maximum Cap on Accrual (California Associates Only)
Associates will be allowed to carryover unused accrued vacation from one year to the next, but the maximum amount of vacation that an associate can accrue is equal to one and one-half (1.5) times their annual accrual. Once the maximum cap is reached, then no further vacation will accrue until the associate uses some vacation to fall below the maximum cap, at which time vacation will start to accrue again.

When You Leave Valassis
If an associate's employment with the company terminates, they will be paid their accrued and unused vacation pay, if any. Associates who have taken vacation in advance of it being accrued will have their final check reduced by the amount of the advancement. Unused purchased vacation time will also be reimbursed.

Leave of Absence
Associates must apply any accrued and unused vacation to the beginning of an unpaid medical or personal leave.

Re-Hired/Transferred Associates
A former associate (whose position was eliminated) who is approved for re-employment will be reinstated with previous benefits and seniority if he/she is re-employed with the company within one year of the effective termination date. The reinstated associate's original date of hire will be used to accrue and calculate vacation benefits. A former associate who is approved for re-employment but returns to the company over a year after the effective termination date will be considered a rehire. The rehired associate's new date of hire will be used to accrue and calculate vacation benefits.
